Prof. Davide Torsello will be offering the presentation at our next Management Research Seminar Series on 4th December, Tuesday, from 12.00 pm – 1.30 pm.

His topic will be: “Millennials at the workplace: an empirical framework for cultural and organizational aspects”

This research deals with the topic of the tension between the social and generational aspects of the millennial workforce and the organizational cultural aspects of their workplace. The main assumption of the work is that a large portion of the specialized literature in management, human resource management and organizational behavior presents rather contradictory findings on the relevance and causalities of this tension. This paper will attempt to address this gap by, first, sketching out the main controversies in the study of the personal and social values which relate to the millennial generation; second, by introducing a hybrid model that looks at both the societal values related to members of this generation and their perception of the salience of organizational cultural features in the workplace; third, by presenting and analyzing empirical data of research in a multinational corporation. The final outcome will be a model that encapsulates data analyses on a multi-level analyses of generational, societal and organizational cultural features that allows to tackle in a dynamic way the problem of high turnover in this stratum of company employees.
