Admission Requirements for the MA in Economics, Data, and Policy Program

Note that we currently and exceptionally accept Duolingo English test as an alternative to TOEFL/IELTS and the CEU math test as an alternative to GRE. The above tests can be administered at any suitable place with stable internet connection. If you live in a country without easy access to ETS or IELTS test centers, we encourage you to consider the above tests.

General CEU Admission Requirements:

Program-specific Requirements

    • A 500-word essay(motivational letter) introducing your academic/professional background and explaining how further studies at CEU would help you in achieving your future career goals. If you are considering the “Research (pre-PhD)” track, please outline a research topic you would be interested in working on.
    • There is no mandatory mathematics test required for admission but especially if  you are considering the “Research (pre-PhD)” track, you are encouraged to write an online  Mathematics Exam administered by CEU or submit a GRE Quantitive Score. Taking the math test can only increase the probability of you getting a scholarship. The online math exam aims to test you on basic calculus, probability theory and linear algebra and is organized by CEU. The Mathematics Exam will take place twice after the application deadlines respectively, first on October 30, 2024 for early applicants and then on February 17, 2025. If you take both GRE and Mathematics Exam, we will count the best out of the two scores.
